A FAMILY ON A MISSION
We use a phrase to describe our church – “A Family on a Mission”. We borrowed this phrase from the larger family of churches we belong to called Salt and Light. By this phrase we mean not so much that we do “missions,” but that we are missional in our outlook and practice. The word “mission” is derived from the word apostle, which means “sent one.” Therefore, to be missional means we are constantly focused outward as a church family to take the gospel to all who need it. We see missions as reaching out to a neighborhood in our city with an after-school program for children, or touching the local university, or planting churches in nearby towns like Quincy, IL or Columbia, MO; or planting a church in Fresno, California; or even reaching out to the Philippines to help our friends Bobby and Noemi Pino as they work to win a city and an island to Christ.
The world is not dying for lack of American church culture. What
“Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation” (Mark 16:15).
It is a big job, but we rely on the strength and grace that God gives as He directs our lives to extend His family.
LOCAL MISSIONS HIGHLIGHT
Located in Devlin Place, our afterschool program runs Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:30 during the school year and 12:00-2:00 during the summer. We offer homework assistance, reading intervention, healthy snacks, and engaging activities to children ages 5-14, through community sponsorships.
Since 2010, we have been blessed to serve nearly 300 different kids in our city, meeting over 100 of them in this last year, and we look forward to touching many more little lives in the years to come!
