Here are some thoughts from the message on August 17 — a simple walk through a few verses in Ephesians 1 via the “Message” translation of the Bible.
Jesus made us free through the cross
• Ephesians 1:7 Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people––free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free.
Jesus has a purpose for your life
• Ephesians 1:11 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had His eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose He is working out in everything and everyone.
Jesus is the Son of God and Lord of all – This includes you and me (whether we know it today or not, He is still Lord)
• Ephesians 1:20-21 All this energy issues from Christ: God raised Him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments; no name and no power is exempt from His rule. And not just for the time being, but forever.
The Church is Jesus’ bride and kind of a big deal to Him 🙂
• Ephesians 1:22-23 He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which He speaks and acts, and by which He fills everything with his presence.
